Binders and tabs for schools and universities

A program runs on paper somebody has to assemble: the course pack a cohort carries all term, the accreditation binder a site visitor reads, the playbook that lives in a gym bag. We manufacture that paper on a bindery floor in Kent, Washington that has been doing precision work since 1919 — at quantities that match a cohort, not a warehouse, with our prices on the page.

What we build for education

Course-pack and curriculum binders. For a book that gets carried, dropped, and reissued every term, poly is the right material — extruded polypropylene, screen printed in one color, light and water-resistant, and the least expensive binder we build. Poly runs $8.75 each at 25 units, $6.95 at 100, and $5.55 at 500 on our ladder. Poly is on our provisional ladder — the numbers are current and market-accurate, but we confirm them in writing for your job before anything goes into production. Poly doesn’t take foil and printed color is limited to one screen — if the cover is a photograph, ask about entrapment or turned-edge instead.

Department-standard vinyl binders. Heat-sealed rigid vinyl with a one-color screen print or a foil-stamped seal, stock cover colors, two inside pockets. This is the binder a department adopts and keeps: durable, wipeable, and cheap to reorder through years of student handling. Our published ladder, 1” round ring:

Larger ring sizes carry a published adder — a 2” ring adds $3.00, a 3” ring $5.75, and D-rings add $1.00 — so a three-inch program binder prices as plainly as a one-inch one. The full range is on the binders page.

Tab sets for curricula and accreditation binders. Printed both sides, mylar-reinforced, three-hole punched with reinforced holes, and collated in set order, so nobody in the department office is assembling banks by hand the week before a site visit. Five-tab sets run $5.25 at 25 sets, $2.30 at 100, and $1.60 at 250; ten-tab sets run $9.45 at 25, $4.15 at 100, and $2.90 at 250. Eight-tab banks fall between them, and custom banks run up to 12 tabs per set. Standards, domains, units, and semesters are ordinary tab work — see the tabs page for the complete ladder.

Diploma and certificate covers. Turned-edge casework: a printed or cloth sheet laminated, wrapped over board, and turned at the edges for a clean finished perimeter with no seal line, foil stamped with the institution’s seal. These are quoted per job rather than sold off a ladder, because size, material, and stamping vary with every seal. Submit the specs as a quote request from the order page.

Athletic playbooks and travel binders. Poly for the ones that live in a locker or on a bus; vinyl when the program wants its mark foil-stamped and the book to last a career. Either takes a custom tab bank — install, opponent, situational — punched and collated to match.

Why institutions order from a bindery

Most school and campus binder suppliers are resellers. The tab printing, the screen work, and the binder assembly happen somewhere else, on someone else’s schedule, with a markup between you and the floor. Here they happen under one roof, which matters when a term start moves and the course packs have to ship this week.

It matters again on the second order. Departments buy against a standing spec — house color, seal position, standard tab bank — and we keep the artwork, dies, and screens on file indefinitely. A reorder is one email and the 10-business-day clock. Nothing changes between the fall run and the spring run because nothing has to be rebuilt.

Our minimum is 25 binders or 25 tab sets. That is a section, a cohort, or a single accreditation team — not a pallet you store in a closet for three years. And West Coast production is real money on bulky goods: nearly every national binder converter ships from the Midwest or East Coast, and Kent is one truck day from Seattle, Portland, and the Bay Area.
